HALLELUJAH!!!!

• Sports Weekly reported this week that despite the A's turnaround, the team is expected to let Manager Ken Macha go after the season and replace him with bullpen coach Bob Geren. Beane has said that Macha has done an admirable job this season. However, the two haven't spoken about a contract extension since before spring training.

Well rape my anus and call me a prison bitch! This is the best news I've heard all week! I knew that Billy wasn't this stupid. I just knew it. Despite using such words as "masterful" to describe Macha's managerial performance, he had no intention of keeping this gum chewing assclown on board.

So what about his replacement? Bob Geren, beyond the fact that he currently is the A's bullpen coach, recently was the manager of the AAA Rivercats for a few years. But that's neither here nor there. A's fans have a pretty lengthy set of prerequisites that all new managers must have fulfilled before we'll accept you. Let's see if Geren meets the requirements.

  • New A's manager requirements:
  • 1) The new manager cannot be Ken Macha.
  • 2) That is all.

Well, it looks like Geren passes. Welcome aboard, Bob.

If the A's hire Geren, I predict the name of this blog will change to "firegeren.blogspot.com" soon thereafter.

Don't you guys see, Beane does not want a traditional manager (ie. Pinella, Valentine, etc.) because he cannot control them. Howe, Macha, Geren, all have one thing in common, they do what they're told to do. They're not leaders, they're followers. Next year will be no different than the last 6 years.

That's an extremely near-sighted view. The hatred of Macha does not stem because of his implementation (or lack thereof) of Billy's philosophies, it stems from the fact that Macha has never really demonstrated any real ability to manage a game. Do his counterproductive lineups and total bullpen misuse not leave you scratching your head at least once a game? Can you not see how other managers toy with him when it comes to in-game tactics? Why does Ginter get so much playing time, yet Melhuse rots in solitary confinement? Why is Ellis' playing time so sporadic, when he's a superior player to Scutaro in nearly every facet of the game? Why can he never see that a starter is laboring until it's much too late? The hope is that Bob Geren will be able to understand these things when it's his turn. And if he can, he will have my unwavering support.

Ken Macha is simply a low watt bulb, regardless of whether or not he bunts. I will not shed a single tear if and when he's gone. And I suspect that you won't, either.

Requisets.

There are THREE Requisets, not TWO.

1) The new manager cannot be Ken Macha
2) The new manager cannot be Art Howe
3) That is all.

near sighted??? weren't you one of the people calling for Art Howe's head a few years back. Yep, look what that accomplished. My advice: be careful of what you ask for...

Its obvious that Beane thinks managers are overrated and will not spend precious resources on procurring the services of a more elite manager. The fact is, the A's haven't had a great manager since Billy Martin. And before you go all George Will on my ass, yes, I intentionally left La Russa off that list. Anybody who gets out-managed in two of three straight WS is not a great manager.

With that being said, I will welcome the day that Macha is gone, but I will not hold my breath that his replacement will be anything more than another brain dead rock on the bench.
